Bulldogs Take Down The Tigers on the Road

AUBURN, Ala. – No. 7 Mississippi State returned to the road with an emphatic 85-59 victory over Auburn Monday night at Auburn Arena.
           
The Bulldogs (16-1, 4-0 SEC) beat the Tigers (14-3, 2-2 SEC) for a sixth straight time, while improving their SEC regular-season win streak to 20 games.
           
MSU shot 53 percent from the floor and enjoyed a plus-19 rebounding advantage.
 
"Those kids play so hard and Coach Flo does a tremendous job with them," Coach Vic Schaefer said.
           
Tearia McCowan led the Maroon and White with her 14th double-double of the season (22 points, 10 rebounds). Jessika Carter added an SEC-career-best 14 points, while Chloe Bibby had 11 points and Jordan Danberry had 10 points.
           
Danberry has now scored in double figures in 12 straight games. She added a pair of assists and a pair of steals. McCowan had three blocks, while Anriel Howard had eight rebounds.
           
MSU never trailed in the contest. The Bulldogs broke a 7-7 tie with six straight points and later ended the first quarter with a 15-5 run for a 22-12 lead. The lead grew to 12 twice in the second quarter before the Tigers used an 8-0 run to pull within 28-24. A 3-pointer by Andrea Espinoza-Hunter ran the MSU lead back to double digits at 36-26.
           
The Bulldogs held a 38-28 lead at the intermission.
           
Danberry scored back-to-back baskets as the Bulldogs used a 10-0 run to build a 50-32 lead with 6:24 left in the third quarter. The Bulldogs would hit 11-of-18 shot from the field in that quarter to take a commanding 64-45 lead.
           
The lead continued to climb from there with a Jazzmun Holmes put-back extending it to 23 points, up 68-45 with 8:08 left to play. A 6-0 run would later create the largest lead at 74-47.
           
MSU held a 43-24 rebounding advantage. The Bulldogs had 16 assists and 20 turnovers, while the Tigers had eight assists and 16 turnovers.
           
Auburn received 18 points from Daisa Alexander, 16 points from Brooke Moore and 14 points from Crystal Primm.
           
MSU will host No. 15 South Carolina at 6 p.m. CT Thursday on ESPN.
